Bringing An 11 Month Old Baby To A Whiskey Tasting... And More!

From left: Wild Turkey Master Distiller Jimmy Russell, 11-month-old Vivienne Sachs, and yours truly, May 2011 (pic by a well-meaning publicist whose name is lost in the mist of time).

I was excited to write up Wild Turkey’s Generations bourbon — the first father-son-grandson collaboration I know of in the whiskey world, and pretty delicious besides. But it also gave me an opportunity to tell the story of the day I brought my then-infant daughter to a whiskey tasting with Wild Turkey’s own Jimmy Russell, one of the most legendary figures in the history of American whiskey. I would have told it at the time, but the publicists who suggested it asked me (after talking it over with the brand, no doubt) to not write an article about their master distiller conducting a bourbon tasting with a baby in the room, and getting the father tipsy in the bargain. At long last, here’s the scoop, plus a review of Generations, brought to you by the fine humans at Alcohol Professor. Link is -> HERE <-.

And while I’m badgering you to read my stuff… it’s my first Whisk(e)y Of The Week review of 2024! Actually my first one since November, having been laid low by shingles for pretty much all of December. It’s about a bourbon as well, one that’s quite delicious, most distinctive, and fairly controversial because… well, you’ll just have to read my writeup for that, won’t you! As always, it’s for the classy folks at Forbes — link is -> HERE <-.
