Is Michter's 25 Year Old Bourbon Worth $1,000? (And That's Just The SUGGESTED Retail Price)

Michter’s Master Distiller Emeritus, Willie Pratt, died just after Christmas. He joined the team in 2007 and really helped put Michter’s on the map, not just as a brand that sourced great whiskey but as a brand that made great whiskey — and now, a brand with two distilleries of its own, which he had a huge hand in creating. His legacy lives on in drinkable form as well. Buy a bottle of Michter’s 10 Year Old bourbon or rye and you’re getting something that he had a hand in making.

The 25 Year Old bourbon that was released a couple of months ago predates Pratt — it’s what Michter’s president Joe Magliocco calls “Phase 1” whiskey, when he was sourcing aged stuff from distilleries that were only too happy to unload it, the bourbon renaissance not yet having bloomed. It’s a bit of Michter’s history, and the cool thing is that it tastes like a Michter’s, even if someone else made it. Magliocco & Co. started out with a flavor profile in mind, stayed with it, and figured out how to make it themselves along the way,

But is it worth $1,000? Or rather $8,000, which is what I’ve heard from friends that it’s already going for on the secondary market? Well, you’ll just have to read my latest for Alcohol Professor and find out, won’t you. Click on the link and get the skinny!
