More Michter's And A Wild One From Bowmore

I have no idea how one would open this bottle, and sadly, I’ll likely never need to find out. (Photo courtesy Bowmore/Aston Martin)

The fine folks at Food & Wine are keeping me off the streets and out of trouble, for which I am grateful. I’m also grateful that I seem to be the go-to guy for all things Michter’s, which I’ve loved since the days when the bourbon cognescenti were still deriding the brand because it didn’t have its own distillery, and deriding owner Joe Magliocco for being a New York dilettante carpetbagging in Kentucky. Well, maybe it wasn’t that bad, but I heard a lot of very respected people say things along those lines back then. I thought Michter’s was something special from first taste, which for me was around 2010. Their 10 Year Old Bourbon never disappoints, and that goes for the latest bottling as well. It’s actually quite special because… well, I’ll let you read the article to find out why. The quotes from Magliocco and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson alone make it worth your time. And the collaboration between luxury automaker Aston Martin and luxury whisky brand Bowmore was something I never quite understood, but it produced some pretty terrific Bowmore bottlings. The collaboration seems to have come to an end — maybe one of the execs finally realized that cars and booze don’t mix? But they’re going out with a bang, and a crazy bottle with some amazingly rare hooch inside. Read all about the Bowmore ARC-54 right -> HERE <-. (I never did find out what “ARC” stands for; I asked but was never given an answer. Thoughts and guesses are welcome!)
