160-Proof Whiskey: Gimmick Or Good Stuff? (Spoiler Alert: Yes And Yes)

Don’t let the six-shooter stopper fool you — do six shots of this stuff and you’re in big trouble, hoss. (Photo courtesy World Whiskey Society)

I don’t know about you, but when I’m looking for a nice whiskey to sip after dinner, or something to use to mix up a cocktail, I don’t go looking for something mega-high proof. Don’t get me wrong, I love a (small) glass of barrel-proof heavies like Booker’s or Elijah Craig or George T. Stagg as much as the next fellow. But those fine bottlings generally weigh in at a mere 125-135 proof. So what to do with an American single malt that has “Hazmat” in its name, comes packaged in a bottle with a stopper resembling an Old West-styled six-shooter, and is a hearty 164.67 proof ? Well, drink it, obviously. Or else use it to disinfect my phone. I chose the former, and much to my surprise, it tasted like… you’re going to have to read my review at Forbes to find out exactly what it tasted like. Link is -> HERE <-.
