Is Malibu A Rum? No. Is It A Party In A Bottle? Hell Yes.

Malibu RESIZED.jpg

When I signed up to write for Liquor.com’s soon-to-be-a-separate-thing-honestly Bottle Reviews section, I told them that I’m fairly knowledgeable about most spirits, but my real passion lies with whisk(e)y and rum. So what was the first, er, “rum” they assigned me? None other than Malibu, the rum that’s not really a rum. Not that anyone who drinks it really cares, but for rum nerds like me who don’t normally drink it, the definition can be infuriating, because for a lot of folks who don’t spend their time reading the kind of thing you’re reading right now, Malibu is what rum tastes like. And that’s just wrong.

Why is it wrong? And what is Malibu, if not a rum? You’ll just have to read my review (whose link is right -> HERE <-) to find out. And though I wish I could write up something from Mount Gay or Foursquare or Hampden or Rhum J.M., Liquor.com is a business, and heaven knows they have their reasons for wanting a Malibu review before something more esoteric. And I must confess, it was fun writing about it — and drinking it, too. It may not be a rum, but get yourself in a beach-party mood and it goes down nice n’ easy.
