What The Heck Is “White Rum,” Anyway? Here Are 12 Great Ways To Find Out

These rums have less in common than you might think. (Photo courtesy of Robb Report)

I got the nod from the folks at Robb Report to write another rum round-up, this time for white rums. Of course I said yes, in large part because it gave me an excuse to drink rum and write about it. But I was also grateful to have a soapbox on which to deride the whole concept of white rums as a category. Why? Where do I start? White rums aren’t white, first of all, they’re clear — except when they retain a little color from the barrel. “Wait, the barrel?” you may ask. “Aren’t white rums un-aged?” Au contraire! A large percentage of white rums are barrel-aged and then charcoal filtered to remove the color. Which is why it’s silly to talk about this stuff as being a single category. But one thing they do have in common is that they’re all super-delicious. So on that count, it’d behoove you to check out the article. And where’s the link, you might ask? Right -> HERE <-.
