Splurge Worthy (Splurge-worthy? Splurgeworthy?) Bottles For Holiday Gifting
Back in days of yore — meaning, in this case, pre-2018 — when I was writing a lot for HuffPost, I did a lot of grab-bag type articles about all the pricey spirits crossing my path. Equal parts snarky, informative and goofy, they told each expression’s distinctive backstory and had tasting notes and other relevant information prospective buyers would require, but generally conveyed the same message: Yes, it’s ridiculous that a bottle of booze costs this much money, but you know, the damn thing tastes pretty damn good. So if you’ve got the cash, they’ve got the hooch.
It was a lot of fun to write one of those round-ups again, this time for the fine humans at Alcohol Professor. But my return to the world of expensive spirits also raised a question: Is “splurge worthy” two words, one word (“splurgeworthy” is not correct, at least according to SpellCheck), or a hyphenated word? My money is on “splurge-worthy,” if only because it looks right on a totally subjective basis. But my editor, the mighty Amy Sherman, says that it is in fact two words. Which just doesn’t look right to me. But that’s how it went in the headline. You be the judge. -> HERE <- be the link. And if the article helps you find a good bottle for gifting this holiday season (or any other special occasion, so much the better.
