The Balvenie's 42 Year Old Expression Is A Doggone Good Whisky

Photo by me, jigsaw puzzle assembled by me, whisky consumed (post-photo) by me.

The Balvenie is one of my absolute favorite Scotch single malts, so when I was offered a sample of a 42 year old expression bottled from a pair of casks laid down in the 1970s and curiously named “A Tale Of The Dog,” I was, needless to say, over the moon. When it showed up elegantly boxed with a bespoke wooden jigsaw puzzle, I was… confused. I mean, if there’s a whisky that can speak for itself without any bells and whistles — or puzzles — it’s this one. But hey, I’m always up for a good excuse to procrastinate, and doing a Balvenie jigsaw hit the proverbial nail right on the head.

I set up shop in the living room and got down to business. My wife also works from home, so when she got up to take a break and saw me on the floor, hunched over a jigsaw puzzle, she too was confused:

“What are you doing?”
Not being able to think of anything else, I said, “Working.”
<Pause> “You have the weirdest job.”
It’s true, I do. But after I finished the puzzle, the whisky tasted even better and more complex. Like victory, you might say.

Anyway, I did not write about the puzzle for Forbes, but I did write about the whisky, which is everything one could expect from a 42 year old Balvenie — which is to say, utter f***ing greatness. Read all about it by clicking the link right over -> HERE <-!
