The Last Holdout Succumbs: My Podcast Debut
I don’t understand the appeal of podcasts. Considering that most of the people who aren’t busy hosting their own podcasts are busy listening to other people’s podcasts, mine is definitely a minority opinion. But I remain befuddled. Who has time to listen to someone talk for an hour or more, even if the person and the podcast are interesting? Who wouldn’t rather read a good piece of writing? Isn’t listening to a podcast kind of like… listening to talk radio? I mean, when did we all start liking that ?
That said, being the one person in the New York Metro area who still hadn’t appeared on a podcast, it was only a matter of time before someone made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. And that someone was my great and good friend Philip Duff — creator of Old Duff Genever, world traveler, former bar owner, fluent speaker of Dutch, husband of the fabulous Elayne Duff, raconteur extraordinaire, and now, host of the Philip Duff Show. The man’s gift of gab is such that, even if I couldn’t think of anything interesting to say, I figured he’d be witty and amusing enough for the two of us. And of course the plan was to drink throughout the proceedings, so I supposed I’d loosen up as things went on, which, sure enough, I did. At least that’s how I remember it.
He also brought along some pretty damn cool booze, including a 100-or-so-year old kümmel, with which he made Silver Bullet cocktails, and century-old Angostura bitters, which we had in Old Duff Old Fashioneds. I also broke out a few items of interest, including the latest rum from rock legends KISS (yes, they have more than one rum) and… well, why don’t you just have a listen! Go to the link right… over… -> HERE <-, head to the podcasting site of your choice, and set aside two hours and twenty minutes (which can be broken down into smaller chunks, mind you) for mirth and hilarity and booze industry info and all that good stuff.
Just warning you, Mr. Duff and I may have something else podcasty in store in the next several weeks. Stay tuned!
