Paper, Ink, The Whole Nine Yards: My Latest For Whisky Advocate
It’s probably a sign of how old I am that getting an article into print is, and probably always will be, a much bigger deal than being published online. The funny thing is that more people will probably click on one of my Interwebs articles than will buy a physical copy of a magazine in which I appear. But being in a physical publication carries with it an air of legitimacy (and, um, not for nothin’, but it pays better as well). It’s kind of like the difference between streaming an album and owning it on vinyl. And for me, who grew up in the pre-Internet age, print definitely feels more “real.” Like, hey, I’m not just a content creator, I’m a journalist !
With that in mind, I’d love to post a link to “The Roots Of American Rye,” my first print appearance in Whisky Advocate — the gold standard of booze publications, which makes me puff out my chest even more — but it’s not online, at least not yet. It’s all about American whiskey distillers who are using locally grown rye in their product, in many cases even growing it themselves on their own farms. I got to talk with a lot of interesting people for the article, and I intend to include on this very website some longer bits of the chats we had. So head to your local newsstand and pick up a copy of the Spring 2022 edition, available through June. Even if you don’t like my article, there’s plenty of good stuff to check out.
