In Praise Of The 99% (Corn Mashbills, That Is)

I took this photo in my kitchen — the backsplash seems like it’s made for bottle pics, doesn’t it?

My Whisk(e)y Of The Week column at Forbes hasn’t exactly been a weekly affair, I’m embarrassed to report. It’s closer to a Whisk(e)y Of The Fortnight, which is actually a pretty cool name, but I’m still ambitious enough to at least attempt to make it a weekly thing. And to make up for a rather long absence, I decided to write up two whiskeys at once this time around. And it’s not like I randomly stuck two bottles together or anything. Both Bhakta Spirits’ 2013 Bourbon and Jacob’s Pardon Small Batch Recipe #3 share a mashbill of 99% corn and 1% malted barley. Which, as you’ll find out if you read the article, is pretty crazy considering that’s a mashbill one hardly ever sees in the wild, or in your local liquor store, for that matter. The whiskeys in question are also connected to two of the more interesting people I’ve met during my time in the booze, Raj Peter Bhakta and F. Paul Pacult. What makes them so noteworthy? Read the article! What’s that? I haven’t posted the link yet? Oops! -> HERE IT IS! <-
